Russian Chess is a type of chess based on the ancient Russian game Tavelli. The history of Russian chess, which were called taurels, is rooted in antiquity. Even in the Scythian mounds of Priazovye, in the Etruscan burial grounds, in Varangian burials on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea, archaeologists found dice with numbers and signs on the faces, multi-colored pebble and large flat stones, cut into a cage. In later excavations (in the Chernihiv region, in the Novgorod lands), numerous accessories for playing tavels were discovered. Recent findings within the boundaries of old Ryazan suggest that in the IX – X centuries. Taurels were widely spread in Russia - a game with firmly established rules. The game of Russian chess is mentioned in epics about Vladimir Krasnoye Solnyshko and Sadko. Scientists connect the disappearance of this intellectual game from the traditions of the Russian people with the baptism of Russia and the corresponding attitude of the Church towards games. Their complete oblivion occurred in the era of Peter I, who spread the game fashionable in Europe in Russia - Indian chess.Only recently, thanks to the efforts of the Moscow Nobility Assembly and the Creative Personnel Support Fund, Russian chess began to develop rapidly. In 1997, the International and Interregional Russian Chess Federations were created. Their president was the leader of the Moscow noble assembly V.A. Ivanovsky, and vice-presidents - world champion A.E. Karpov and Chairman of the Movement “Word and Case” G.L. Sterligov. Huge work has been done to collect all archaeological and historical information about the Taurels, to systematize and generalize it. As a result, modern rules of the game of Russian chess were developed and patented. A program for the development of Russian chess until 2000 was prepared and approved. This application is one of the first attempts to make Tavelis a computer game.
